Body Contouring Q&A

+ What is body contouring?

Body contouring is a cosmetic medical treatment that helps reshape your body to enhance your look. You may only be familiar with surgical body contouring that removes skin and excess fat after you’ve lost a lot of weight, but advances in medical technology now include noninvasive treatments for body contouring. We offer in-office body contouring treatments with Cutera TruSculpt®.

+ What is Cutera TruSculpt®?

The Cutera TruSculpt® treatment option is a safe, effective radio frequency (RF) technology that reshapes and redefines targeted areas by heating up the fat cells and disrupting their structure. The damaged cells are then processed through your lymphatic system and eliminated from your body naturally.

Treatment with Cutera TruSculpt may help you lose up to 12% of the stubborn fat in the treated areas. It’s painless and requires no down time.

It takes 6-12 weeks for you to see the full effects of body contouring treatment with Cutera TruSculpt.

+ Is body contouring permanent?

The fat cells destroyed by TruSculpt treatment do not come back, but you still need to work at keeping your newly contoured shape to prevent the remaining fat cells from growing. This can happen if you gain weight. The providers at Above and Beyond Clinics recommend you continue to follow a healthy diet and exercise plan to maintain your weight and look.

As a physician focused on prevention, the team is happy to provide support and strategies to help you with your diet and exercise program.

Cosmetic Injectables Q&A

+ How do dermal fillers reduce lines and wrinkles?

Dermal fillers come in a wide array of treatment options meant to reduce sagging skin and restore lost volume to your face – a typical side effect of the aging process. Depending on your individual needs, the experienced medical team at Above and Beyond Clinics will recommend a filler that gives you the most effective results for your desired appearance.

Some dermal fillers contain hyaluronic acid, a substance your body naturally produces. These types of fillers are effective at smoothing lines around your mouth, lips, and nose. Other fillers contain collagen and soft gels to smooth lines and add volume as a way of correcting wrinkles and giving your skin a firmer, more youthful appearance. Some types of fillers work to stimulate the production of new collagen for a long-lasting effect.*

*Individual results may vary.

+ How does Botox®. minimize lines and wrinkles?

Botox®. is a prescription medication that is injected into targeted areas of your face to help relax your facial muscles. When your muscles relax, your skin appears smoother, and fine lines and wrinkles are less noticeable. Botox is commonly used to treat forehead lines, frown lines between your eyebrows and crow’s feet around your eyes.

Botox works best on moderate to severe lines for men and women who want to combat the signs of aging without undergoing more invasive procedures or cosmetic surgeries. Typically, you can see the effects of a Botox injection within 7-10 days after the procedure. Botox injections are virtually painless, and the results may last up to four months.*

*Individual results may vary.

+ What is Dysport®?

Dysport® is similar to Botox® in that it uses a purified type of botulinum toxin type A, which relaxes muscles in the face. These muscles contribute to the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles when you smile, squint, and frown.

Dysport is produced by Medicis®, which also makes Restylane® and has been used in Europe for decades. Dysport features a smaller molecule than Botox, so it requires different measurements to accomplish similar goals.*

*Individual results may vary.

+ How long do the results of Botox® and Dysport® last?

The wrinkle-reducing effects last for 3-4 months, depending on the area treated and how your body responds. To maintain your look, set up a regular treatment schedule with Above and Beyond Clinics.

Light & Laser Q&A

+ How do laser and IPL treatments improve the complexion and reduce scars?

At Above and Beyond Clinics, the team uses laser treatments and IPL therapy for skin resurfacing and revitalizing. The energy of the laser removes the most damaged outer layers of your skin to reveal a healthy, fresh complexion. IPL uses light wavelengths of different intensities to absorb excess pigment in the skin and even out your complexion. Both treatments stimulate collagen production to create firmer, more resilient skin. Collagen is a natural protein that provides strength and elasticity to your skin.

+ What types of scars can laser and IPL treatments repair?

Laser treatments are effective on a few kinds of scars. These include:

  • Acne scars
  • Surgical scars
  • Scars from injuries or disease, such as chickenpox

The energy from the laser targets the discoloration and uneven texture of scars to reduce their appearance.

+ What is the difference between IPL therapy and laser treatment?

Lasers use a singular wavelength to treat a specific scar while IPL uses a broad spectrum of wavelengths. IPL’s differing wavelengths means it can target a number of different skin conditions to even out your entire complexion, reducing the appearance of age spots and blood vessels too.

+ What are the benefits of laser and IPL treatments?

IPL and laser treatments offer a noninvasive way to repair scars and revitalize your complexion. You don’t have to undergo any injections or incisions, which means you can also avoid possible infections.

+ What is Laser Hair Removal?

Intense pulsed light (IPL) devices are high-intensity light pulses that can be used to remove unwanted hair. Similar to a laser, IPL devices destroy hair follicles and inhibit new hair growth. The light pulses travel safely through the skin to target your hair follicles and can treat a large area all at the same time.

IPL hair removal is most effective when your hair is growing, so you might need multiple treatments for optimal results, as hair grows in different stages. The IPL treatment works safely on most skin tones and hair types and on just about every part of your body.

In addition to hair removal, IPL therapy is an effective treatment for minimizing the appearance of spider veins, skin discoloration, and sun damage. IPL is commonly used for reducing age spots and melasma on your face as well as reducing redness caused by rosacea.

+ Is laser hair removal permanent?

The FDA considers laser hair removal to be a “permanent reduction” hair eliminating procedure. Laser treatments permanently disable hair growth in the targeted follicles, therefore removing the majority of hair on your face, thighs, legs, underarms, or any other area.

For many women and men, the results are permanent, although some may experience regrowth. If that happens, you can return to Above and Beyond Clinics for additional laser hair removal treatments as needed. Typically, any regrowth is much less noticeable and much finer than the hair was before laser treatments.

+ How is IPL used to treat rosacea?

IPL is an effective way to reduce the redness that rosacea causes on your face. Dr. Nava and PA. Mayra Bobadilla use the advanced technology IPL of the CUTERA® xeo® aesthetic laser system to successfully treat rosacea redness in men and women. The xeo IPL procedure targets the tiny blood vessels below the surface of your skin that cause redness. Heat from the IPL energy helps to destroy capillaries to minimize redness on your face. After the treatment, the capillaries disintegrate over a period of three to four weeks, and the redness goes away.

+ How many treatments will I need?

Exactly how many treatments you need will depend on the depth of your scars and the extent of other complexion issues you wish to repair.

The providers at Above and Beyond Clinics evaluate your skin and give you a customized treatment plan. Many people see results after just one treatment while others benefit from a series of treatments.
